What We Do

The Pen Lucy Action Network (PLAN) seeks to empower youth and families living in Pen Lucy to address the social, cultural, and economic injustices that shape their communities. We work to “seek the peace and the prosperity of the city to which I have sent you” (Jeremiah 29:7). To that end, we strive to respond to Christ's love by supporting sustainable development in Pen Lucy and Baltimore through year-round educational and arts-related youth programming.

Our Values

Baltimore boasts many quality youth programs, but PLAN stands out. We build all of our programs around these core values:

  • Holistic Development – Many youth programs offer educational empowerment, while others offer faith-based personal growth. PLAN seeks to holistically provide both.

  • Relationships – We encourage our adult volunteers to invest in their students, to get to know their families, and seek to understand both their community. PLAN invests in building strong relationships with parents, developing years-long connections with the families we serve.

  • Building Bridges – PLAN brings together people of various backgrounds who invest in relationships that build bridges across cultural divides. Additionally, Summer@Faith brings together a racially and socioeconomically-diverse group of kids around shared interests in literacy, the arts, and spirituality.

  • Listening to the Community – Building strong ties to our families puts PLAN in a place to truly listen to the community we serve. PLAN’s targeted focus on the neighborhood of Pen Lucy has enabled us to sustain community ties with key leaders and local schools over the years, making us an integral part of the neighborhood.

  • The Value of Partnerships – Although PLAN operates independently of FCF, the church is our physical and spiritual home, our largest donor, and our most significant source of volunteers. Much of PLAN’s longevity can be attributed to this strong partnership.
